House Minority Leader Weekly Briefing

During his weekly press briefing, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) said that "funding for ICE and the Department of Homeland Security should not move forward in the absence of dramatic changes that are bold, meaningful, and transformational." Department of Homeland Security funding and the agency that falls under it, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was scheduled to expire the next day unless Republicans and Democrats reached an agreement to avert a shutdown of DHS, which includes the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Leader Jeffries also responded to questions involving newly-elected Rep. Analilia Mejia (D-NJ) not committing to supporting him as leader following her special primary election victory, as well as his assessment of Attorney General Pam Bondi's recent testimony at an oversight hearing. He alliteratively referred to Ms. Bondi and other Justice officials as "partisan, pathetic, pitiful, petulant, pettifoggers."
