Ghislaine Maxwell, a former associate of the convicted financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, testified in a virtual deposition before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Ms. Maxwell stated repeatedly that, at the advice of her counsel, she would invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, and did not respond to any questions from the majority or minority staff of the Committee. Ms. Maxwell's lawyer, David Markus, explained at the beginning of the deposition that Maxwell must remain silent as she has a petition pending that claims she was the victim of an unfair trial. Markus said that Maxwell would tell the "unfiltered truth" if granted clemency by President Trump, saying she maintains that "Presidents Trump and Clinton are innocent of any wrong-doing."
