Due to their relative isolation and the cost of importing, building and maintaining large-scale infrastructure, many Pacific island nations have relied on comparatively low-cost diesel to power their energy needs. Leveraging the temperature differences of the oceans surrounding them however has been put forward as one possible renewable energy solution to break away from fossil fuels.
