The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has issued a "state of emergency" for LGBTQ+ Americans for the first time in its history. The organization cited an alarming surge in anti-LGBTQ+ legislative assaults across the United States. Over 75 anti-LGBTQ+ bills passed this year alone which is more than double the number from last year. The HRC's president, Kelley Robinson, emphasized that LGBTQ+ Americans are facing real and dangerous threats. "The multiplying threats facing millions in our community are not just perceived — they are real, tangible and dangerous", Kelley Robinson. The HRC has released a guidebook to provide information and resources to ensure the safety of LGBTQ+ residents and travelers. The HRC's guidebook, available online, offers health and safety information and state-specific law summaries. More than 525 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced across the states this year, 220 targeting transgender Americans. The HRC's actions during Pride Month aim to educate and equip LGBTQ+ individuals with essential knowledge and resources. Which will enable them to navigate an increasingly hostile landscape and protect their rights and well-being.
