A new study has identified a possible link between frequently checking social media and changes in the brain. These changes are associated with having less control over impulsive behaviors among young adolescents. The study looked at nearly 200 young people in the sixth and seventh grades. It founds that teens who frequently checked social media were more likely to see increased activation in certain regions of the brain. These included the regions of the brain that regulate reward centers as well as decision-making around social situations. The study was conducted by researchers at the University of North Carolina.
