[Oklahoma Charter School Board v. Drummond] and [St. Isidore of Seville School v. Drummond] Oral Argument

The Supreme Court heard oral argument in [Oklahoma Charter School Board v. Drummond] and [St. Isidore of Seville School v. Drummond], a consolidated case about the constitutionality of states supporting religious charter schools with public funding. In 2023, St. Isidore, Inc., applied to Oklahoma's charter school board to establish St. Isidore as a virtual charter school that teaches Catholicism. After the board voted to approve the application, Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond (R) successfully sued the board in the state's supreme court. Mr. Drummond argued that the contract violated the state's prohibition of religion in public schools. However, the board, St. Isidore, and the Trump administration countered that St. Isidore was not a state actor and therefore restrictions on religious education did not apply. Justice Amy Coney Barrett recused herself in this case.
