Liberals say they're waiting on committee report to decide on MAID extension

Justice Minister Sean Fraser says his government will wait for a report from a parliamentary committee before taking a position on whether Canada is prepared to extend medical assistance in dying to people whose sole underlying condition is a mental illness. Conservative MP Michael Cooper, who is on the committee, says it has clearly heard the country is not ready for that change, which is set to happen in March 2027. May 6, 2026
