On July 16, 2026, the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, in close coordination with the East Palo Alto Police Department, Redwood City Fire Department, and the SPCA, successfully rescued a dog from the bay near Cooley Landing in California. The dog, which had been reported missing by its family since July 4, has been safely reunited with its owners. The incident began when a witness called 911 to report a dog that had run into the water and continued swimming far out from the shore.
