[Spoken from the Heart]

Former first lady Laura Bush discussed her memoir, [Spoken from the Heart] (Scribner; May 4, 2010), in conversation with journalist Cokie Roberts. Mrs. Bush began and ended by reading an except from her book which traces her life from being a teacher and librarian in Midlands, Texas, to becoming the first lady of a White House in war time and an ambassador for the U.S. The interview touched on highlights of her life and her years in the White House and beyond. She also responded to questions submitted by members of the audience. "Laura Bush: Speaking from Her Heart" was a Smithsonian Resident Associate Program held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, in George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium.
