This is according to scientists who have just done the first global survey of carbon capture. The vast majority of carbon is captured by natural methods, such as trees and soil. Scientists say we need to invest more in conserving and restoring these natural “carbon sinks” Only 0.1% of captured carbon is from new technologies such as direct air capture and biochar. New carbon capture technologies should quadruple in size by 2025, to 12 million tonnes a year. But this is still a drop in the ocean.
