The Department of Justice announced that a grand jury indicted the Southern Poverty Law Center for making fraudulent payments of millions of dollars to members of the Ku Klux Klan and other neo-Nazi organizations, as well as one of the leaders of the infamous Charlottesville Unite the Right Rally that took place in 2017 and left one person dead. According to the DOJ, the left-wing group was engaging in fraud in order to "stoke racial hatred." “The SPLC allegedly engaged in a massive fraud operation to deceive their donors, enrich themselves, and hide their deceptive operations from the public," said FBI Director Kash Patel. “The SPLC is manufacturing racism to justify its existence,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said.
