After six months of SAG-AFTRA strikes, a resolution has finally been reached, but what does this mean for the future of Hollywood? TV and movie production are set to resume, but substantial preparation will need to be done before that can happen. The hurdles that production will need to overcome are script writing, rebuilding sets and putting together formerly disbanded set crews. Broadcast news series will be the first back up and running as they have always relied on fast-paced writing, production and editing. Regarding when we will start to see the product on our screens, when it comes to TV, the rule of thumb is about three months. This allows the production to accumulate a multitude of episodes to release on a weekly basis while filming continues. Productions must now get permission from actors if their likeness is used in an AI format, as well as get union consent to use dead actors' likeness. When it comes to residuals, actors will now get a 50% bonus on their standard residual if their show does well on streaming platforms. A 'successful' show is deemed so if it can attract 20% of the platform's audience within 90 days, similar to the deal that WGA writers have.
