Senators Blumenthal and Warren on First Amendment and the FCC

Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) led a hearing-style meeting on Capitol Hill about concerns over the First Amendment under the Trump administration's Federal Communications Commission. This happened shortly after comedian Jimmy Kimmel was suspended for a period of time from ABC after Federal Communications Chair Brendan Carr (R) threatened retaliatory action against ABC over the comedian's on-air comments, which Chair Carr objected to. Special panelists in this meeting included FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez--the sole Democrat on the FCC--Protect Democracy counsel Conor Gaffney, and others. Moreover, the panelists and members of Congress discussed allegations of corruption amid Paramount and Disney paying President Trump $16 million and $15 million to settle lawsuits as the FCC oversaw these companies' various business activities.
