Nicki Minaj has defended former Litte Mix star Jesy Nelson after she was accused of blackfishing in the music video for her song Boyz. Blackfishing is a word people use to accuse someone of pretending to be black or mixed-race. Minaj tweeted that fans should not be “bullying” someone who has “been suicidal from bullying in the past”. In an Instagram live with Minaj, Nelson said the subject of blackfishing only came up when she was filming her last music video with the group. However, fans on social media claim they have been calling the singer out for blackfishing for years. Minaj went on to calling Nelson’s former bandmates “clowns”. Little Mix have not yet commented on the matter. Nelson, who appears heavily tanned and wears wigs and braids in the video, said it was never her intention to “offend people of color”.
