Hurricane Fiona in Canada and the Caribbean caused more than $3 billion of damage, dumping 80cm of rain on Puerto Rico in a single weekend and knocking out its entire power grid. Floods in Pakistan caused more than $5.6 billion of damage. These catastrophic floods were one of the most expensive climate disasters that killed 1,700 people and displaced around 7 million. In 2022, other disasters occurred which had a higher human cost, such as droughts in the Horn of Africa, which impacted 36 million people and floods in West Africa, which killed more than 600 and displaced a further million.
