Puppies rescued from 100 lb desert tortoise den

Two five-month-old puppies had to be rescued after they were trapped in a tortoise den in Southern California.San Bernardino County Fire crews arrived in the Yucca Valley on June 19 to find a 100-pound tortoise blocking the puppies' exit from its den.A video shared by the fire department shows firefighters using a big chunk of watermelon on a stick to coax the large desert tortoise, named Oscar, out of the den. The treat fails to entice the tortoise, so the crews start digging."After an hour of digging crews were able to get the puppies out of the den," the fire department said. "'Peo' and 'Finn', were unharmed & happy to reunite with their dog mom Kathleen."
