Congress has proposed a new law called the All American Flag Act, which will require the government to use only US manufactured flags. The proposal was sent to President Joe Biden after a previous unsuccessful attempt where the rule was passed in the Senate but did not make it through the House of Representatives. Senators Susan Collins and Sherrod Brown of Ohio led the proposal, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on American jobs and manufacturers. "The American flag serves as a symbol of our identity, resolve, and values as one people. To honor its significance, the federal government should only use flags entirely manufactured in the United States," said Senator Collins. According to federal data, the US imported $4 million worth of flags in 2015, most of which came from China. Two years later, in 2017, the figures more than doubled, with American flag imports worth $10 million, and 99.5% coming from China.
