Campaign 2026: Michigan Republican Gubernatorial Candidate John James Campaigns in Harrison Township

Michigan gubernatorial candidate Rep. John James (R) held a campaign event the day before statewide primary elections. Other speakers included House Republican Conference Chair Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI), former state Attorney General Mike Cox (R), and former Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI). Mr. Cox also ran for governor but dropped out after President Trump endorsed Rep. James. During his remarks, Rep. James called Michigan "home" and told supporters "I hate politics, but I love this country." He encouraged attendees to "stand and fight" against the "Marxist march" of Democratic candidates in the Great Lakes State and across the country. The winner of the Republican primary would go on to face the Democratic nominee in the general election, which the nonpartisan Cook Political Report with Amy Walter rated "Lean Democratic."
