Supreme Court Civil Rights Mystery

The U.S. Supreme Court chamber was the setting for a lecture about African American law student Lloyd Gaines. Mr. Gaines petitioned the Supreme Court when he was denied entry into a whites-only law school at the University of Missouri. The Supreme Court ruled in his favor in 1938 -- but then Mr. Gaines disappeared and was never seen again. Harvard law professor Kenneth Mack and Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan spoke. This event was part of a series marking the Supreme Court Historical Society's founding in 1974-75 while Chief Justice Warren Burger led the court.
