Kannur: The Kannur International Airport will be inaugurated on December 9. The inauguration was decided following the approval of aerodrome license for the airport by the DGCA on Thursday. The inauguration date was released by the CM's office. Reports suggest that the President may inaugurate the airport but the authorities haven’t still confirmed the chief guest. Within a few days of inauguration, the services on commercial grounds will begin. The present runway is 3050 m long and the works to extend the runway to 4000 m have started. The airport has been equipped with all advanced facilities and extends to an area of 2300 acres. The construction of International Cargo Complex extending to 1.05 lakh sqft. is underway. There will be 24 check-in counters, self baggage drop counters, self checking machines, 32 immigration counters, 4 e-VISA counters and 16 customs counters in the airport. The airport has all the facilities for landing of big airlines like Boeing 777 and also 20 aircrafts could easily fly down at a time. Also 6 aero bridges have been built. Wide vehicle facility with space for 700 cars, 200 taxis and 25 buses at a time have been arranged.
