Vaccine fraud? Actor-MP Mimi Chakraborty allegedly duped; 'IAS impostor' held

West Bengal Police arrested a man for allegedly organising a fake Covid vaccination camp. The man was arrested from Kasba area following a complaint by TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty. Mimi filed the case saying the man posed as an IAS officer & invited her to join the drive. The actor-turned-lawmaker said she had attended the drive & even got herself vaccinated. Mimi added that she had taken the Covishield jab to encourage people to get vaccinated. The TMC leader said she, however, never received a confirmation message from CoWIN. Chakraborty also claimed that the man was using a car with a blue beacon & fake sticker. Police have identified the man, who had set up the free inoculation camp, as Debanjan Dev. Dev had set up the drive introducing himself as a joint municipal commissioner of KMC. Outgoing mayor Firhad Hakim said action will be taken if anyone from KMC is found involved. Police said that Dev had no permission from KMC to conduct the inoculation drive. Police, however, added that they haven't come across any vial having an expiry date. As per police, the seized vials will be sent for testing to find out if they are genuine. The case has, meanwhile, been transferred to Kolkata Police Detective Department. Police have also impounded a four-wheeler from the possession of the accused.
