If you struggle to go to the toilet when you are in a new place and feel constipated throughout your trip, there are ways to combat this stressful time. It is a phenomenon that is more common than you’d think. There are a few reasons for it and more than one way to fix it. Firstly, when you travel, your circadian rhythm can be altered due to being in a different time zone. Another reason involves how you travel, as being sedentary for long periods can result in a lack of movement in your digestive system. If you’re flying, you may feel more bloated as there is a drop in atmospheric pressure, and the air in your bowels begins to expand. One thing you can do is stay hydrated and eat as if you were at home, in other words, don't change your diet by eating unhealthily, for example. Try belly breathing exercises by expanding your belly as you take deep breaths, which have been shown to reduce anxiety and lower your heart rate. If all else fails, laxatives prescribed by your doctor should flush out any blockages, or even try natural laxatives like oranges or caffeine.
