The third of four Super Moons for 2020 will happen this week on April 7 and it’s going to be the best one of the year. The Super Pink Moon won’t be pink, it’s named after pink Phlox flowers which bloom around the full moon in April. A Super Moon occurs when the full moon coincides with the moon moving to the closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit. The pink Super Moon will be 221,851 miles from Earth while the average moon-earth distance is 238,855 miles. A Super Moon can be up to 14% bigger than normal and up to 30% brighter. This week’s Super Moon will be the closest the moon will get to the earth this year. The best time to see the Pink Super Moon is during Moonrise on April 7 or Moonset on the morning of April 8. It's best to study the surface of the moon a few days before or after the Super Moon as it will be too bright on April 7. The next and final Super Moon of the year occurs next month on May 7 and it’s called the Super Flower Moon
