Ultrarunner Joasia Zakrzewski Disqualified For Using Car In Race

Scottish ultra-marathon runner Joasia Zakrzewski has been disqualified from the GB Ultras race for allegedly using a car during part of the route. Zakrzewski, who finished third in the 50-mile race, is thought to have traveled by car for 2.5 miles. Race director Wayne Drinkwater confirmed that a runner had gained an “unsporting, competitive advantage” and had been disqualified. Scottish Athletics chairman David Ovens expressed disappointment over the incident, given Zakrzewski's previous success. She has set multiple records, won medals in IAU World 100km Championships, and represented Scotland in the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. The matter has been referred to UK Athletics. Mel Sykes has been awarded third place in the race.
