What is Deep South Chocolate Gravy?

It's not a southern brunch without chocolate gravy and buttermilk biscuits! This Appalachian chocolate gravy recipe is the epitome of comfort food. All you need is for this recipe is: 1/4 cup cocoa powder 3/4 cup sugar 3 Tbsp all-purpose flour 1/4 tsp salt 2 cups warm whole milk 2 Tbsp butter Sift together the cocoa powder (we prefer Hershey's unsweetened cocoa powder), sugar, all-purpose flour, and salt into a large skillet. Whisk the dry ingredients together and slowly pour in warm milk. Turn the burner to medium heat and switch your whisk out for a heatproof spatula. Continue to stir and scrape the bottom and sides of the pan until thickened, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the butter. Serve the chocolate sauce over hot biscuits, ice cream, waffles, muffins, or eat plain with a spoon. See more at wideopeneats.com
