Floaters and Runners are two very important types of shots to add to an offensive package. The purpose for both moves is to shoot the ball over your defender and prevent the charge. In these instances, the defensive player typically has their feet set, blocking a clear path to the basket. To use a floater shot, the offensive player uses a jump stop and then pushes the ball high above and over the defenders hands. To use a runner, the offensive player will hop off one foot, similar to a layup (same hand, same foot raises), and push the ball over the defenders hands. In both motions, it is imperative for the offensive player to use this shot with enough space to prevent a charge.
