Priests in France will wear QR codes to prove if they are sex offenders or not. The public in France will be able to use their phones to scan the ID of priests to see if they are under investigation or not. The ID cards will show a green, orange, or red light depending on the priest’s status and career history. Red would indicate that the priest has faced accusations of sexual abuse. The orange light may mean that a recently-ordained priest is not fully qualified to lead a mass. Whereas the green would confirm that the priest has a clear record and is qualified to lead mass. Most Bishops are said to have received their cards, with the rest expected to receive theirs by the end of the year. This measure comes as part of a clampdown on sexual abuse by the clergy. However, critics have labeled the move as little more than a publicity stunt.
