NTSB News Conference on Helicopter-Jet Collision Investigation

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chair Jennifer Homendy and Sean Payne, NTSB vehicle recorder division branch chief, briefed reporters on their ongoing investigation into the deadly mid-air collision of a military helicopter and a passenger jet near Washington, D.C. Chair Homendy shared a detailed timeline leading up to the collision and noted that the Black Hawk helicopter crew was likely wearing night-vision goggles and may not have heard the cue to "pass behind" while communicating with air traffic control. Additionally, she shared that the helicopter was potentially equipped with "bad data" about the flying altitude.
