HM Coastguard rescues new-born baby from stranded boat

Hemsby Broads Rescue was paged at 6am on Sunday (April 24) by Humber coastguard at the request of Gorleston Lifeboat to Breydon Water. Two stricken vessels had run aground and were listing. Gorleston ILB couldn’t get in close enough to assist with evacuation so requested Hemsby Broads Rescue who have a flat bottom broads lifeboat. They managed to get alongside and proceeded to evacuate five people on board, as well as a six-month-old baby, a rabbit and two dogs. While the Hemsby Broads Rescue crew was carrying out the evacuation, Gorleston ILB and Everitt Marine Services held off for the crew to transfer the people on board and pets to their boats for safe transit to Yarmouth Yacht station. The tide was going out so the rescue was time critical.
