Illinois Governor Pritzker on President Trump's Deployment Plans for Chicago

Gov. JB Pritzker (D) and other Illinois officials held a news conference amid President Donald Trump's plan to deploy federal troops and agents to Chicago with the stated purposes of fighting crime and cracking down on immigration. Governor Pritzker shot down the idea that the deployments were about crime and immigration, saying the administration had cut programs related to fighting crime and that the president and Republicans showed no legislative interest in improving the immigration system. He also affirmed that his state was prepared to challenge the deployments in court. Before this, President Trump had previously deployed troops and agents to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Governor Pritzker was joined by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Cook County President Toni Preckwinkle, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul, and Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton.
