How To Boost Your Vitamin D Before Winter Arrives

As the summer heat fades and the leaves begin to fall, it's only a matter of time before we start reaching for our scarves and hats.  However, scientists recommend that we try to get as much vitamin D as possible before the darker and colder months set in.  The first thing you can do to boost your vitamin D is use a sun lamp, however, this doesn’t mean you should book a tanning appointment.   Ultraviolet radiation from tanning equipment can cause cancer, but if you can get a specialist lamp, you should be okay.  Secondly, incorporate vitamin D-rich foods like fatty fish, including herring, mackerel, and wild salmon.   Another strategy is to take vitamin D supplements, with the recommended amount varying depending on the levels present in your blood.   Finally, even though it might not be typical ice cream weather, spending time outdoors during the early autumn months will help boost your vitamin D levels.
