The Ocean Rebellion activist group are calling on world leaders to keep the oceans alive by banning the highly environmentally destructive practice of bottom trawling, which is a key driver of overfishing. According to the group, the bottom trawling industry also releases 159 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year and is a significant contributor to global carbon dioxide emissions. The United Kingdom will host global leaders from around the world for the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow from 31 October to 12 November 2021.
