A Southern California man with a history of domestic abuse has been arrested on a murder charge in the death of his ex-girlfriend. Aaron Stevan Romo, 36, is being held without bond in the killing of 24-year-old Mirelle Mateus. Anaheim police found Mateus' body after responding to reports of suspicious circumstances at an Anaheim apartment. Police have said Mateus did not live there, and the apartment is not a listed address in online records for Romo. On a GoFundMe page to raise money for Mateus' funeral, her sister wrote that she and her mother have "shattered hearts." "We’ve lost one of our most sacred precious beings in our life that God blessed us with," said Sandy Caceros. Court records show Romo has a history of domestic violence allegations across three states. Romo was out on bail after being charged in December with two felony counts of corporal injury on a spouse and false imprisonment. Romo had pleaded not guilty in the case.
