The scientists behind mRNA COVID-19 vaccines have won a Nobel Prize

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2023 has been awarded to Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman. The professors developed mRNA - or messenger ribonucleic acid - technology and as the world raced to produce a COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic. The pair’s discoveries enabled the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech jabs which have now been received by millions of people worldwide.
