POTUS: President Trump Announces Federal Savings Accounts for Children

President Donald Trump announced that billionaires Michael and Susan Dell were donating $6.25 billion to "Trump Accounts" designed to give every U.S. citizen child born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028, an initial deposit of $250, which would accrue interest until they turn 18 years old. The president, who was joined by congressional Republicans, praised the Dells' generosity. Both Dells spoke about their desire to help children in poverty have the opportunity to save money. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent explained how the accounts would automatically be generated upon a child's birth and parents would not have to "claim" the accounts to be eligible.
