A woman fell ill and died on a flight from the Dominican Republic to North Carolina. The 41-year-old was on American Airlines flight 2790 from Punta Cuna that was diverted to the Bahamas' Providenciales International Airport. An American Airlines spokesperson said that the flight was grounded “for the medical needs of a passenger." The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands police said they received a call from Air Traffic Control at 6.15 p.m. requesting medical assistance. They reported that the woman on board the plane required attention and was receiving CPR. The unnamed woman, from Central Indiana, according to FOX 59, was transported to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the cause of death, although no information has since been released. The flight continued to Charlotte, North Carolina, the following day, an airline spokesperson said.
