Two Oklahoma residents were rescued by the Coast Guard after being trapped in the ocean for 36 hours. Nathan and Kim Maker from Edmond, Oklahoma, went missing while scuba diving off a Texas beach. Severe weather struck Matagorda, and the pair vanished from sight when conditions cleared, according to the US Department of Homeland Security. Coast Guard helicopter and boat crews launched an extensive search operation, covering 1,656 square miles of ocean. The divers were eventually spotted by a flashing light in the water, officials said. The search, which lasted more than 36 hours, concluded with the pair being safely transported to a Coast Guard station. Kim Maker, an elementary school teacher, received warm wishes from the Edmond School District, which expressed their elation over the rescue. Lisa Shearin, who went diving with the couple, was stunned by their survival. Both divers are now in stable condition. "They have a greater purpose, obviously. God truly did spare them," Shearin told KOCO-TV. The dramatic rescue has left the community in awe, grateful for the Coast Guard's relentless efforts.
