Senate Democrats on Elon Musk Getting Access To Treasury Payment System

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) held a news conference on the Trump administration giving Elon Musk, head of the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), access to the Treasury Department's payment system. "DOGE staffers--whomever they are--now have unprecedented access to the most sensitive payment data in the entire federal government, with no transparency, with no guardrails," he said, and lamented that the Treasury inspector general was one of several inspectors general fired in the previous week by President Donald Trump. Sen. Schumer called on the Treasury secretary to revoke DOGE's access immediately, or Congress would introduce legislation "to stop unlawful meddling in the Treasury Department's payment systems." DOGE is a temporary organization and not a federal executive department, which requires the approval of Congress.
