Enzo Fernandez issues apology after sparking Chelsea race row

Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez has apologised after posting a video of him singing a homophobic and racist song about French football players. He live-streamed Argentina’s players celebrating on their team bus after winning the Copa America final against Colombia. The chant dates back to Argentina beating France in the 2022 World Cup final, and reportedly stereotypes the French squad as being “all from Angola”, having a “Nigerian” mother and “Cameroonian” father. His teammate Wesley Fofana described it as “uninhibited racism”. Fernandez apologised for the video overnight and said there was “no excuse” for his actions. Chelsea condemned his actions and have vowed to educate the midfielder, and “an internal disciplinary procedure” is also underway.
