House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and New Jersey Reps. Analilia Mejia (D) and Rob Menendez (D) hosted a news conference to attest to the conditions at the Delaney Hall Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in New Jersey. They outlined a Democratic-led effort to systematically alter ICE's "inhumane" processes. Former detainee Margarita Cielo Balbuena told reporters that individuals were held without proper medical care and given spoiled food. Lawmakers voiced concerns about the privatization of detention centers and called for Delaney Hall to be permanently closed.
