US President Joe Biden will make an unprecedented visit to Manaus in the state of Amazonas before he heads to the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro. Biden will meet with indigenous leaders in the Parque das Tribos community, the largest indigenous neighborhood in Brazil, where around 37 ethnic groups live, according to CNN Brazil. The visit to Manaus will mark the first time that a US president has visited the Amazon region, with Biden set to focus on environmental preservation and forest protection during his visit. The White House confirmed that Biden intends to hold talks with local leaders and people involved in Amazon preservation projects. The President's stay in Manaus will be a short one and is expected to last approximately four hours. Biden will be accompanied by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during his visit to Brazil. Although Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was initially expected to attend the meeting in Manaus, his attendance has yet to be confirmed. After his visit to the Amazon, Biden will head to Rio de Janeiro, where he will take part in the G20 summit and a bilateral meeting with Lula.
