Shunsui Kyōraku is the former captain of the 8th Division of the Gotei 13 and the lifelong best friend and sworn brother of Jūshirō Ukitake and Jūshirō Ukitake is the captain of the 13th Division in the Gotei 13. The late Kaien Shiba once served as his lieutenant, and currently, 3rd Seat officers Kiyone Kotetsu and Sentarō Kotsubaki are serving as his acting lieutenants.
