Miley Cyrus is the third daughter of country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992 in Franklin, Tennessee, her parents called her “Smiley” as a child because she smiled so much, and later shortened her name to Miley. She broke through as a child actor on the Disney TV series “Hannah Montana,” and later started to release her own music. Her singing and songwriting have spanned a variety of genres—including pop, country, rock, and hip-hop. Her godmother is Dolly Parton, who she cites as a big musical influence along with Britney Spears, Elvis Presley, and Whitney Houston. Miley’s received a number of awards—Including 19 Teen Choice Awards and three MTV Video Music Awards—and she’s ranked in the top 100 of Billboards’ Greatest Artists of All Time.
