A grizzly bear that killed a woman in Yellowstone National Park was shot after it broke into a home, wildlife officials confirmed. Genetic analysis proved the bear was involved in the fatal attack on Amie Adamson, 47, a former teacher from Kansas in July. The bear was captured for research purposes in 2017 before being released and attacking another individual in 2020. Both incidents are believed to have been defensive responses by the bear, Montana wildlife officials said. This latest episode saw the 10-year-old grizzly and her cub break in through a kitchen window to take a container of dog food. The US Fish & Wildlife Service authorized the shooting of the bear, who are protected under the endangered species act. The cub is being held in a wildlife rehabilitation center while plans are put in place to see it transferred to a zoo. Nine people have been killed by bears in Yellowstone since 2010, with officials urging those who venture out to “Be Bear Aware." Those precautions include traveling in groups, making noise to alert bears of your whereabouts and carrying bear spray.
