According to the research journal Addiction, never before have young adults in the US taken so many “magic” mushrooms. The study shows that from 2018 to 2021, 6.6% of Americans aged 19 to 30 used non-LSD hallucinogens of some sort. Taking shrooms was most prevalent among young males, white people, and those whose parents have a rather high educational status. Also, The Hill has reported that by 2021, 8% of young adults in the US used hallucinogens - the highest known rate since the 1980s. 1971 saw a hallucinogens boom, and a Gallup poll found that 18% of college students had experimented with psilocybin mushrooms. The use of such drugs has decreased over the past few years, most likely due to the legalization of cannabis in a lot of states. Oregon has recently become the first state to start teaching the controlled use of magic mushrooms.
