Floating Solar-Powered Pods Are 5-Star Hotel Rooms That Cruise The Sea

A designer has created luxury floating pods intended to revolutionise seaside hospitality. The brainchild of Pierpaolo Lazzarini, founder of Lazzarini Design Studio Pearlsuite's are emissions-free 5-star floating abodes which are able to cruise the sea. Ideal for both existing and future holiday resorts, the easy-to-build pod allows hoteliers to increase a property’s number of suites in a matter of weeks at what the design studio says is a very low cost. Measuring 7m in diameter, the Pearlsuite offers up to 22sqm of interior space as well as a walkable external deck. Fully autonomous, it’s equipped with solar panels that generate clean, green energy to power the A/C, lighting and other appliances. The suites can also be equipped with an electric engine and are therefore able to self-position themselves or cruise at 5 knots from point A to B. The pods have been designed specifically for fellow Italian outfit Jet Capsule, which specialises in futuristic, sustainable vessels. Inside, each pod comes complete with top mod-cons such as a fridge, TV and double bed. In addition, there’s an outdoor deck with direct access to the water. The roof is also retractable, allowing guests to rest in private after a day of sunbathing at sea.
