Hailey Bieber's Skincare Line Sued For Trademark Infringement

Hailey Bieber’s new skincare line Rhode is being sued for trademark infringement by a fashion brand of the same name that was founded in 2014. Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers, the brand’s co-founders, claim Bieber tried to buy the Rhode trademark for clothing in 2018 but they refused. The model launched her skincare brand on Jun. 15 and Khatau and Vickers claim it has created “confusion in the marketplace”. What Ms. Bieber is doing is harming a minority co-owned business that two women have painstakingly built into a growing, global brand, Lisa T. Simpson, Lead Litigation Counsel to Rhode. Bieber’s skincare line has been accused of using similar marketing taglines as the fashion brand. The lawsuit claims that this shows the model is “intent on exacerbating” the confusion surrounding the two brands. According to Page Six, Khatau and Vickers are asking Bieber to be blocked from using the name Rhode to avoid confusion between the brands.
