Earthquake aftershocks shake buildings in China

This is the terrifying moment earthquake aftershocks shook buildings in China. Residents experienced the first tremor of the year, a magnitude 4.8 earthquake, followed by aftershocks in Nanning, China, on January 2. CCTV footage shows shop owners fleeing their store as bottles and canned sodas stacked on shelves fell to the ground. In another video, babysitters are seen carrying children out of a daycare centre to evacuate during the tremor. A separate clip shows frantic students exiting their classroom as the earthquake struck, with one heartwarming moment capturing a student carrying a classmate who was unable to walk properly. Following the earthquake, the Ningxia Fire and Rescue Corps and the Yinchuan Fire and Rescue Detachment mobilised heavy earthquake response teams, deploying 20 vehicles and 105 personnel to the epicentre for assessment. Local media reported that the tremors caused damage to the outer walls of multiple old residential buildings, resulting in minor injuries to passersby. The tremor was also felt in Wuhai and Bayannur in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) noted that China accounts for one-third of the world's destructive continental earthquakes. Since 1900, more than 550,000 people have died in earthquakes in China, which is 53 per cent of the total global casualties from such disasters.
