New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India said in its annual report that 99.3 per cent of the old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes, have been returned. Before the ban on November 8, 2016, Rs 15.41 lakh crore worth 500 and 1,000 rupee notes were in circulation, out of which notes worth Rs 15.31 lakh crore have been returned. The Specified Bank Notes (SBN) were used to process and verify the returned bank notes and the sophisticated high speed Currency Verification and Processing System (CVPS) was put into action to check the genuineness and then shred the notes.
