The California Department of Justice will investigate if racial discrimination played a part in the lack of preparedness and response in the Altadena Fire that killed 19 people in January 2025. The California Attorney General Rob Bonta said the CA DOJ investigation will look into whether race, age, or disability discrimination contributed to the emergency preparations and delayed response in the historically Black community of West Altadena, which claimed the lives of nearly two dozen people.
